Woodsman Sport Model - #53997-S .22LR
I really like this little pistol. This fellow is 61 years old and has a lot of character. That sounds a bit silly, I know. True, the exterior finish shows a good bit of wear. However, absolutely nothing shows abuse. There are no dings that would come from dropping it. There are absolutely no pits or signs of rust having ever touched this pistol. It's straight and crisp and clean and ready for another 61 years. This is a great Second Series Sport Model, made in 1950. It remains in good original condition with perfect mechanicals. It has a correct, original, and beautiful set of dark brown "Coltwood" bakelite grips. There is holster wear on either side of the muzzle, loss of finish to the sides of the barrel, the front and rear grip frame, and slight sharp edge blue wear. This guy has been carried and used. It has a perfect bore and actually shows very little use other than carrying. It's tight and sound, with nothing whatsoever amiss. This is the ideal kit gun. It is compact, flat, relatively light, and handy. It will carry in a holster all day without pinching your waist. It reminds me of when I was a kid and would hike all day long in the woods with a .22 pistol on my side. Yes, back then it raised no eyebrows to see a teenager traipsing around with a sidearm. For me that was almost a daily event. I well remember getting home from school; and with my .22 on my side, walking to the little filling station on the highway just below our neighborhood. I could buy a box of .22 ammo for about a quarter. Then to the woods I would go. My sidearm then was a Ruger Standard. I wasn't fortunate enough to have something as nice as this Woodsman at that stage in life. What I see here is a companion for the fun times. Hunting, fishing, hiking, plinking, you name it.
